You can create longer words by combining word parts you know.
• A base word contains the core meaning of a word and is a complete word that can stand alone, but has other parts added to it.
• A root contains the core meaning, but cannot stand alone.
• A prefix is a word part added before the root or base word.
• A suffix is a word part added to the end of a root or base word
